Water & Air is a multidisciplinary environmental engineering and consulting firm comprised of engineers, planners, and environmental scientists who provide a wide range of services to private and public clients throughout Florida, North America and the Caribbean. Founded in Florida in 1970, today, we employ over 30 staff members at our main office in Gainesville, FL, and at several field offices throughout the state. Water & Air qualifies as a small business.

Since inception, the staff of Water & Air has helped clients with projects that deal with vital environmental issues including water quality and supply, air quality and noise, hazardous waste, toxic materials, contamination assessment and remediation, environmental planning, and assessment and management of natural resources. Our staff has a long and successful history of partnering with clients to make informed and responsible decisions regarding the environment and the regulatory process mandated by state and federal regulatory agencies.

Our interdisciplinary service is expressed in the organization of personnel categorized into four service groups. One service area focuses on the physical environment including water resources, contaminated media, fate of chemicals, air quality, and noise.

Another focuses on the biological environment in both terrestrial and aquatic (marine and freshwater) systems. This includes benthic ecology, aquatic species identification, wildlife and vegetative community surveys, wetland delineation and restoration, threatened and endangered species, and management of natural resources.

A third group focuses on environmental impact, such as development plans and design, traffic, cultural resources, socioeconomic analyses, recreation, and aesthetics.

The last group focuses on environmental planning and permitting, quality assurance, public outreach, control functions, contract management, construction services, reporting and coordination.

Many members of our staff have worked at Water & Air for more than 20 years. Our average staff tenure is approximately 17 years. This longevity is exceptional among consultants and allows Water & Air to maintain continuity and accountability in our service to clients. Because we are employee-owned and operated, our staff maintains a personal interest in solving our clients' problems.

Water & Air's Experience with Environmental Planning Services and Documentation (National Environmental Policy Act)

National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) planning and documentation is interdisciplinary in nature. NEPA projects are organized using three related areas of focus. One group of capacities focuses on the physical environment, such as water quality, air quality, groundwater contamination, noise, and fate of chemicals. Another focuses on the biological environment, such as benthic ecology, aquatic species, wildlife, vegetative communities, endangered species, and management of natural resources. A third group focuses on the socioeconomic or human environment, such as population, income, development patterns, traffic, cultural resources, recreation, and aesthetics. Services or areas of expertise represented are arranged in a similar manner.

Remediation Experience

Since the 1970's, Water & Air personnel have performed a wide variety of contamination assessment and remediation services. These experiences include the following: soil, sediment, surface and groundwater assessment, hazardous materials, wastes, petroleum products, and chemical agents; hurricane emergency response; underground and aboveground tank assessment, removal, upgrades, and contamination remediation; wetland mitigation and restoration; air pollution and noise monitoring and abatement; indoor air quality and mold abatement; and implementation of soil vapor extraction, stabilization/solidification, bio-venting, and carbon absorption technologies.
